Marriage Notes for Fletcher Davis and Roberta Hopp:

According to Lucy Davis, their daughter, the couple was married in the de Montel parlor at the ranch (near Castroville). "The bride wore an elaborately tucked white gown entirely of her own making. Although it was a joining of two completely different personalities, each half of this marriage seemed to provide what aspects the other lacked. Fletcher was a slow moving and slow speaking dreamer, romanticist and poet. He stood at least six feet tall but was 'straight as an arrow' and rail thin, with sandy blonde hair. His family in Mississippi was of Scottish-Irish stock and old-fashioned Presbytarian faith that didn't even allow dancing. 'Bertie', as she was called, was on the other hand a converted Catholic and a 'whirlwind of energy and practicability'. She had a round, pretty face, jet-black hair and eyes to match that could, when needed, direct a fierce gaze."

Roberta worked with Fletcher at their newspaper, the Hondo Anvil Herald, which he owned, edited and published for 46 years prior to his retirement. He continued as a contributing columnist until he was well into his 80s.
