He was the son of 4. William Hammond and 5. Winifred Milner. He married 3. Unity Smith February 24, 1785 in Anson County, North Carolina.

More about George Hammond: "GEORGE HAMMOND, son of William Hammond and Winifred Milner, was born February 25, 1750, in Richmond
County, Virginia, d. Anson County, North Carolina in 1840, m(1) Sarah Dickerson at Chesterfield County,
Appomattox River, Virginia in 1773. George and Sarah Dickerson Hammond had three children before Sarah died
in October 1871. He then married Unity Smith in Anson County NC on February 24, 1785, and ten (10) children
were born to them between 1786 -1809. Unity died December 1831.

When the Revolutionary War was declared, 1776, he was living in Anson County NC. He stated that he volunteered
about 1777, serving under Captain Patrick Boggan, John De Jarnett and Colonel Thomas Wade.
The records show that he was a soldier in the Revolutionary Army and was a lieutenant wounded at the Battle of
Eutaw Springs, Sept. 6, 1781, in South Carolina. He served under General Greene and Colonel Samuel Hammond
(his uncle).

In 1834, he filed a pension application with the United States Government, for his Revolutionary War Service, which
is listed in the National Archives in Washington D.C. under “Hammond, George, R 4 - 553”

His will was filed in Wadesboro, Anson County, North Carolina on September 21, 1837, and probated July 1840.”

3. Unity Smith, born in Anson County, North Carolina; died December 1831. She was the daughter of 6. Francis Smith, Sr. and 7. Frances Dumas.
