Libraries 2000—Emily Binkley

Emily Binkley, GFWC of Tennessee Chairman

The last year of Libraries 2000 project is drawing to a close, so we really need to work harder to reach our $12.5 million goal. Only 20 clubs in Tennessee reported this past year. So if you did not report last year, PLEASE DO SO THIS YEAR. If you have made a donation and forgot to report, please do no now - even back as far as 1997. You do not need to send me a written report unless you want to, just fill out the report card. Send one to Shirley Gilmore, GFWC Chairman and a copy to me. A copy of the report card is in your Tennessee Handbook and in the Clubwoman Magazine inside the cover.

We have increased our numbers each year, but we cannot let up now. As our GFWC of Tennessee president, Susan Martin has said, "Let's go out with a bang, and do it again."

Congratulations to the clubs in the East Region, at their meeting on October 13th they collected 97 books with an estimated value of $672.00. These books were donated to the Davis Homes Library. Also congratulations to the clubs in the Middle Region, at their meeting on October 27th they collected 138 books with an estimated value of $485.50. These books were donated to Andrew Jackson Elementary School.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT. YOU STILL HAVE TIME TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE! REPORT! REPORT! REPORT! REPORT! REPORT! REPORT! REPORT! REPORT!

GFWC The Students Club—Martha Williams

The GFWC of TN The Students Club started the 2000-2001 year with a luncheon followed by a very interesting program, given by member Martha Goldsmith. She presented the biography of Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt, and read passages from "My Day," a column Mrs. Roosevelt wrote every day for the Washington Post.

In our October program. Mark Holleman, member of the Clarksville City Council, presented a Proclamation issued by Johnny Piper, Mayor of the City of Clarksville, declaring October 24, 2001, as "United Nations Day." Martha Williams, President of The Students Club, was in charge of the program. She informed the members "What Americans should know about the United Nations." She was assisted by six ladies wearing their native dresses. The countries represented were France, Germany, Guatemala, India, Norway, and Spain. Martha Williams represented Argentina.

The members enjoyed the refreshments, particularly those from Argentina and Spain.

The program ended with the singing of "God Bless America," led by Dr. Allan Williams.

To continue with United Nations Month, 29 UNICEF "Trick or Treat" boxes were brought to Kroger, Rose Garden, Clarksville Rotary Club, and several local schools.

On October 25, 2001, five members attended the Fall Regional Convention held at the Old Hickory Country Club.
