THE TREE OF AGES PAST - BY Kyle Booten, Division IV (GFWC Brentwood Woman's Club)

Not long ago I walked untrodden paths.

Into the forest's depths I came to look

at memories upon memories past,

and saw my Tree beside the now-dried brook.

We children once did climb its reaching arms

pretending that they were a vessel's masts.

It was a pirate ship that sailed through harm,

and navigated through the seas of grass.

To my surprise the Tree was broken clean

where seething lightning must have struck its side.

A pirate ship no longer could it be,

and now no children on the brig could ride.

I paid respects to youth and ages past,

now swallowed by the seas of endless grass.
