Greetings my fellow clubwomen! Here I am, somewhere between having been installed as your 2002-2004 President and not yet officially yours until GFWC Convention is over. However, that has not kept me from putting the final touches on plans for our next two years. Those of you who missed the convention and installation missed a wonderful time. The installation was beautiful, thanks to the ladies of my club, GFWC Andrew Jackson Centennial and GFWC Womans Club of Hendersonville who provided the decorations for Saturday nights event, as well as the physical labor of having them in place on time. A very large and special thanks goes to the Hendersonville girls for hosting the dessert reception afterwards. I am very lucky to have such hard working and talented friends who just happen to be clubwomen. For the information of those who were not able to attend, I revealed our theme for the next two years: Hearts in Unity, Beating For Others. Of course, my signature emblem will be the heart and I would like for you to know why I chose this theme. In my den, I have a sweet little pillow, which says The heart is happiest when it beats for others. Whether you realize it or not, you know that to be true. That is why you and I do what we do because it feels good to do something that helps someone else. In keeping with our GFWC theme of Unity in Diversity I want us to be hearts as one helping others. My thanks again to all who have agreed to serve as Department / Division / Committee Chairmen for the next two years. If you are not on the Board, you may still receive a call from me or one of the aforementioned asking you to serve as an understudy to one of them. I have asked every Board member to select a person as a counterpart. This counterpart will be either a person the chairman is training for a leadership role or an experienced chairman who can share their experience and wisdom. I hope this will be great tool for involving more members in leadership roles. Summer Board will be July 12-13 here in Nashville at the Wyndham Garden Hotel. All club presidents will be invited and encouraged to attend as well as any of the counterparts who wish to do so. I will have been to GFWC Convention in Kansas City and should be full of information to share. Thanks again to each of you for your hard work and your support of my efforts.
In Federation Love, Lana
TIDBITS From Convention 2002 Our state's first LEADS nominee is Kay Barlow of the GFWC Renaissance Club in District 4. We applaud Kay for accepting this opportunity. Libraries 2000 can still be reported until June 1st. Send reports to Shirley Gilmore at GFWC level. The 2003 Convention will be held in a central location, to be announced later. The 108th Annual Convention will be in Gatlinburg. A new project for GF of TN is "Cops and Readers" see related story elsewhere in this issue. A GFWC of Tennessee website is being considered and investigated. Many GFWC states and clubs already have web sites, which may be viewed on the Internet at www.gfwc.org.
