GFWC Jackson Woman's Club
For GFWC Jackson Woman's Club, March has been an enlightening and exciting month. Judge Christie Little, the 1st woman Judge in Madison County, spoke at our monthly meeting, sharing some of her experiences as a lawyer and Judge. The opportunities for women are only as small as our imaginations. Judge Little sponsors a program at Youth Town, in Jackson, a boot camp for youth with early criminal behavior. March 6th, President Pat Mingledorff, Linda Johnson, Sandra Johnson, Sondra Marbury, LaVerne McIver and Jane Roe attended Tennessee Legislative Day in Nashville. This was a fun filled, learning experience. The highlight being a forum held by seven of the Gubernatorial candidates at the luncheon. Ladies this is a great way to get to know how our club works throughout the State and meet other club members across our great State. We met with Senator Bobby Carter for a brief visit and pictures. March 10th, we participated in the 37th annual West Tennessee Cerebral Palsy Telethon. This is a major fund raiser for the Center each year. Funds are used to continue providing services to the special needs of children and adults in the area. Membership participated in the lighting of the birthday cake with proceeds going to Operation Smile. Three members attended the Salvation Army Award's Banquet. The Jackson Woman's Club received an Award for Participation. Submitted by LaVerne McIver

A Community Leadership Education Workshop (CLEW) at Summit Medical Center in March brought together 54 high school sophomores, representing six area high schools, to interact with distinguished leaders in business, education and medical professions to discuss present and future issues. The goal was to help broaden the students' understanding of their leadership potential and quest for self-development. Sponsored by GFWC Stones River Woman's Club, this was the fifth year for this workshop. CLEW Chairman Betty Richards began the program in 1998, along with Nancy Snapp, HOBY chairman and Judy Clamon, Volunteer service coordinator for the Summit Medical Center. Assisting were members Janice Warren, Betty Briggs, Patsy Swindel and Catherine Smith. The morning session "Developing your Leadership Skills" and the afternoon session "Making Sound Career Choices" provided a stimulating forum for the students. Carlene Ford, Guidance Counselor at Hunter's Lane Comprehensive High School, outlined "Paths to College". Submitted by Nancy Snapp
