My fellow Tennessee clubwomen, it is now here and I am totally absorbed in GFWC of Tennessee. Before I tell you anything about our projects and programs and progress, I must first ask each of you to remember Susan Martin and her family in your thoughts and prayers. By now, most of you know Susan suffered a heart attack and underwent bypass surgery on July 29th. Susan’s dedication to GFWC and her diligence in everything she does has made my job so much easier all along the way. Elsewhere in this edition, you will find Susan’s address, so please let her know you are thinking of her as she recovers.

I hope you will pay particular attention to the fund raising items we will have for this administration. Ruth’s Designs has created a beautiful tri heart pin, which will be available in gold tone, silver tone and in red/white/blue rhinestones. The pin is beautiful for you to wear, but it is also a great gift item. We also have a gold filigree Christmas ornament that comes gift boxed, with an insert that tells about GFWC of Tennessee. Those of you who use a computer or make presentations, must have the Book N Display easel. It opens into a stand up easel with pages to insert whatever you're typing from or whatever you wish to display for your presentation. You cannot live without one if you’re tired of trying to type from a page that is lying flat on the desk. Use the enclosed form to place your order or you may purchase these at Fall Conference, which I know you are planning to attend.

Speaking of Fall Conference, you will also find the call and registration information in this edition. We have such a great time planned for you – you will not want to miss it. We will have a fun trip on Friday morning to Jack Daniel’s Distillery and then to downtown Lynchburg for shopping and lunch at Miss Bobo’s or just shopping and lunch on your own. On Saturday, we will have a fashion show by The French Shoppe and you will be able to make purchases on the spot. A percentage of the sales will be given to GFWC of Tennessee. Ruth’s Designs will also be there with all of the marvelous jewelry and a percentage of those sales will also given to us.

In November, we will be hosting the Southeast Regional Conference here in Nashville. Clubs will be asked to donate items for table decorations that can be given to organizations in our area. This was done at GFWC Convention in Kansas City and was a huge success. Because of Susan’s illness, a list of the items each club should bring will be sent to club presidents in the official call, which will be mailed within the next two weeks.

I know there may be more news, but Anne Babin (about whom I cannot brag enough) is patiently awaiting my sending this to her so she can go to press. My thanks to all of you for all you do.

In federation love, Lana

SOME INTERESTING FACTS from GFWC International Convention

GFWC has 83 NEW clubs in 27 states.

Libraries 2002 final total was $13,004,669.90. The Goal was $12.2 million. TENNESSEE contributed $309,073.

GFWC will have promotions on Public Radio. Listen for them.

GWFC Totals for the year: 13,674,139 Volunteer hours, 153,247 projects, $56,934,750.00 raised/contributed.

GFWC Brentwood Woman's Club held its Annual Fundraiser at Richland Country Club March 10, 2002. Our keynote speaker, Actress Jennifer O'Neill, was just wonderful and was enjoyed by everyone. Liz Rashkover and the Arts Dept. created beautiful centerpieces with flowers and copies of small magazine covers featuring Jennifer.

The fundraiser was a success with about 200 women participating, and a profit of $7094.00 realized. The event chairs were Olivia Berg and Linda Shultz, with Margie Jones, and they did a very good job of leading the members, working hard themselves.

We enjoyed having our special guests, State President Susan Martin; Mindy Tate--Brentwood Journal; Bonnie Burch - Williamson AM; and we thank Brendy Batey- Green Hill News and Vicki Stout of Williamson AM for covering the event.
