GFWC JACKSON WOMAN'S CLUB - The GFWC Jackson Woman's Club has been busy this spring with the installation of new officers for the coming term 2002-2004. Our new officers are challenged with the outstanding performance of the last administration. We will continue to strive to move forward with confidence and commitment to do the best we can for out organization. As the incoming President, let me say I feel very honored to serve as President of the Jackson Woman's Club 2002-2004. Since joining the Woman's Club I feel more a part of my community and the many projects we work so diligently to achieve help me to feel less selfish as a human being. Have you ever pondered what really makes our organization work. Is it our Differences or our Similarities? Maybe someone instead of insisting on being like us is just simply willing to like us, Differences, Similarities, Warts and all. Mrs. Ella Lawrence, a member of the local DAR Society spoke to us in character about her ancestors from pre-revolutionary war Charleston, South Carolina. This was very educational and entertaining. Kind News, a Publication of the Humane Society promoting the protection of all animals, is a special project we fund for local schools. Vertie Henson, Linda Johnson and Sandra Johnson have done a great job securing funding for the next year. These ladies prove words and actions match the values they believe in. Regional Inter-Faith Association (RIFA) an area relief agency and soup kitchen is another special project. GFWC volunteers manned the soup kitchen May 20th thru May 25th. This is a very humbling experience that brings you face to face with the great needs in our own local communities. Volunteers were Judith Wylie, Joyce Shearin, Jean Clampitt, Joanne Wagner, Sandra Johnson, LaVerne McIver, Vertie Henson, Jane Allen, Jane Roe, Pat Cole and Elloween Matthews. Thanks girls for a job well done. Working together the next two years, it is our goal for the Jackson Woman's Club to make a difference in the lives of as many as we can and be a network of support for each other. Congratulations to the new officers in all the Districts. Have a successful filled year! GFWC JACKSON WOMAN'S CLUB started the summer off with fun, fellowship and laughter. We hosted a Silent Auction, Luncheon and Table Games Benefit on June 17th. The luncheon was a Tea Party complete with stunning hats worn by all the ladies. There was a hat trimmed with golf balls, flags and other golf ornaments. Peacock feathers were displayed, as were many tropical flowers. Gardeners were not forgotten, as one had had a wide brim with assorted vegetables and a bird house on tope. Another hat was created with balloons. Imagination was the only limitation. Thanks to the committee Chairmen and their committees. This was a fun-filled day full of Southern Charm -- you know, the South where women are strong and the eggs are sunny side up, and all are welcome!! Now the committees are working on our upcoming project, the sale of sack lunches on July 19th. With the dedication and hard work already exhibited, this project will be successful, too. ------------------------------------- GFWC Tellico Village Women's Club To celebrate another year of successful community improvement projects, the GFWC Tellico Village Women's Club honored their husbands for all their support throughout the years.
The Club has been focused for the last two years on helping to establish and support the new Child Advocacy Center now open in Lenoir City. The ladies set up beautiful tables, made tea sandwiches and fancy desserts for the Friendship Tea in May, which raised over $2,300.00 for the Child Advocacy Center. What a great way to celebrate and share success, good times and friendship. By Norma Racke, President
