Dear GFWC Members,
Where has the time gone? It hardly seems possible that we are just about to wrap up another two years and begin another new administration. But that is exactly where we are and it is very exciting. I am ever so grateful for the opportunity to have served this great organization as its president and I thank each of you for this privilege. I look forward with great anticipation to the accomplishments that are sure to be in the administrations following.
I hope many of you are planning to come to GFWC Convention in Kansas City, June 15-18, at the Westin Crown Center Hotel. It is true that the deadline for advance registration has passed but it is not too late to plan to come. We have an exciting convention planned and feel sure you would think it time well spent to attend.
On Friday, June 14th, the first GFWC LEADS (Leadership, Education and Development Seminar) seminar will be conducted and it is a day chocked full for those participants. We look forward to the results of this special training, which will benefit our organization and communities for years to come. The plan is to have a new class each year. If you are unable to attend the convention, please watch for the August-September issue of GFWC Clubwoman magazine. It will contain coverage of the convention and information on your new GFWC Officers. (Also....you do not want to miss the latest information on Libraries 2000!)
The final phase of the Pilot Program is in the works and should be in the mail be the end of this week. If your club had a participant, please encourage her to complete the survey and return it as soon as possible in order that we can complete the project and help us better serve our members. Watch for the follow-up in the GFWC Clubwoman.
Please make every effort to obtain a copy of the Administration Report for 2000-2002, in the latest issue of GFWC Clubwoman magazine. See what you and others across this country have accomplished during this time. YOU are OUTSTANDING!
In the recent months I have been reminded repeatedly of the importance of GFWC to our communities and states and these are the times which remind us even further that we do need GFWC--Now, More than Ever!
I want to remind you that if you change the person who will receive the e-gfwc e-mail for your club, please be sure to send the name, club name, phone number and e-mail address in to Headquarters to Marisa at mkrisfalusi@gfwc.org. I am so pleased that I could have the opportunity to communicate with many of you in this manner. Isn't technology wonderful when we can use it this way?
Thank you for your gracious and generous responses to so many projects and programs. You have made an incredible difference in the lives of so many.
While I am completing my term of office, the genuine care, concern and friendship I feel for each of you will continue. Keep up the great work and may all your endeavors be richly blessed.
Sincerely, Shelby Hamlett, GFWC International President 2000-2002

Some really good pointers and tidbits:
1. When addressing the CHAIR, stand and wait to be recognized, then state your name, District and Club. A lot of us know you, but not everyone there does. 2. Attend the workshops and participate. 3. Know the District and State Coordinators. 4. Do NOT be afraid to ask questions, so you can become informed to what is needed and expected of you and your club. Take notes and ask for any handouts available. 5. Have a working knowledge of your bylaws and the objectives of your club. 6. When chairing a committee, be sure to know what is needed for it to be successful. 7. Work with your president to have a successful year. You will find so many capable people, along with a lot of GOOD Friends. You will find that by working with others you can pool ideas and come up with solutions to many things. |
