GFWC Knoxville Woman's Club
guides School Children at Fair
One
of our favorite projects is helping the Knox County school children
at the TVA Fair. Our GFWC Knoxville Woman's Club members give tours
to hundreds of school children each year. The children are bused in
from their schools during the mornings. They eat lunch together while
being entertained by clowns and magicians, then go in groups with
club members to see the petting zoo, children's arts and crafts, vegetables
competition, honey bees, chickens, sheep and so forth, and end up
with a show in the main pavilion. The educational tours take about
1 1/2 hours and give the inner-city children a chance to see things
they never see otherwise--cows being milked, farm equipment, sheep
being sheared and many interactive games.. Our club members love doing
this and the programs kicks off our Fall with a great start --instant
gratification seeing children benefiting from the project.
