Carla's Comments ---

Happy Holidays!

I can hardly believe it is the middle of December, and so cold already! I am looking forward to winter. Growing up we always had really good snows, and it seems we are off to a good start this year. Besides the snow, it is such a wonderful time of year. It really brings out the good in all of us. I was in the grocery store the other day and a woman came up to me and the kids (that I keep) and said, "You are so blessed." I realized that yes, I am blessed and I take so many things for granted. It is at the holiday season that we realize how grateful we should be for all wonderful "things" we have. I am most grateful for my friends in GFWC. Just working with ladies from all around the country and seeing how the things we do in our communities really do make a difference, gives me so much pleasure. We work endless hours and at times we may wonder why. But I feel that if we make just one person feel special than all of the hard work has paid off. I thank each of you for you dedication to GFWC and most of all for you gift of friendship. I hope that each of you will take time out of your busy holiday schedule and just sit back and realize that "you are so blessed! May God watch over you and yours this holiday.

Love, Carla

THEY SAY OLD SOLDIERS NEVER DIE, THEY JUST FADE AWAY
- from Mary Love Coley

What about our army of volunteers? You have spent years serving your club and there is nothing you haven't done. You have a special project that you would like to see the GFWC of TN do in every club. You have served as club president or in another office and now you are feeling the let down that comes after spending all your time volunteering for others. What next? Well, don't get out your rocking chair, yet. NOW MORE THAN EVER you and your special talents are needed.
If you like going places and meeting ladies of similar natures, If you like the inspiration that comes from working with folks of different backgrounds, If you like a challenge, If you think/know that you need to be heard, you need something to do that is important, or if you feeling left out or let down, Then now is the time to gather your courage and endorse for district or state office or to volunteer for a district or state chairmanship. However, it is up to you to let your club know you are willing to serve at the district and/or state level so that they can endorse you. (Use form on page 105 in your TN handbook. Please add e-mail address.)
One thing that is asked over and over: Do I have to have served on the district level before I can serve on the state level? While the experience is very valuable; it is not a hard and fast rule. You may have valuable experience that enables you to do an excellent job at any level. Other questions asked are:
Do you have to endorse for state offices? Yes. See district handbook for their procedure.
When are endorsements due?
They are due to your fall district meeting in the odd numbered years (2003) for the district's added endorsement. ( GFWC of TN By Laws Article II, Section 3)
Chairmanships/Coordinators - are filled by the state president through individuals filling out volunteer forms or through the recommendations of club and district presidents. These forms will be available starting in the fall of 2003.
It is the goal of the 2004-2006 president to have a representative from every club serving on the state level. This will also give a maximum of input and the club president a traveling companion when attending boards and conventions, plus help with expenses.

Love, Mary Love
