Open Letter to District Presidents:

From: Mary Love Coley, Dean of Districts

Hope your Thanksgiving was filled with family, food and fun. Now it’s time to turn your thoughts to how and when to notify your club presidents of the things they will need to keep in mind. If they receive communications from you the first week in January, they will have time to do things the way they need to be done. Some of the things that need to be emphasized are:

1. Each and every club president needs to send to you and to Lana a traditional Club Rating Guide found on pages 113-115 of the TN handbook. The Jefferson Cup award is based upon 100% of your clubs reporting.

2. Encourage the clubs to use the new report forms - you may want to have a workshop in January to help them adjust their reporting and to understand the importance of reporting. Remind them to send a composite report using the new form (found behind page 112 in the TN handbook) of all club projects to GFWC. GFWC needs the hours/time/dollars spent in order to get and to maintain sponsorships.

3. If you held workshops for the district you, the district president, will need to see that it is reported. You will need to send to appropriate state chairman and a composite to GFWC. The same goes for any district project such as a fund for a smile operation.

4. As soon as possible, contact your hostesses to get several possible dates for your spring district meeting. Then send Lana the dates and let her select one that fits into her schedule for visitation. It is very important that she makes the final selection because she needs to be able to visit the districts she may not have gotten to visit last fall.

5. Since the district presidents usually make a 2-5 minute presentation at spring convention, you will want copies of the reports the club presidents give at your district. This will make it easier for you to compile for your presentation for the state.

6. If there is a change in officers for your district, please let me, Lana and Tana know.

7. Please do not hesitate to phone, e-mail or write me if I can be of help to you.
May you and your family experience all the blessings of Christmas.

Federation love, Mary Love

EXCITING NAME CHANGE--TYLS

by Betty Richards

The new name is Tennessee Youth Leadership Seminar (TYLS). Community Leadership Education Workshop (CLEW) is no more.

CLEW will be replaced with a new, more flexible program, focusing on the needs of high school students. This is a one day Tennessee Youth Leadership Seminar that gives High School Sophomores an opportunity to learn and practice leadership skills in a local setting.

This will be the sixth year Stones River Woman's Club has participated in this type of program. The club members are looking forward to implementing this new youth program. Several members from Stones River Woman's Club have stated that they feel this is one of the most important outreach programs we have for the community. Several of the same members volunteer to participate each year. This program draws from 4 high schools. Each school can choose and send as many as ten carefully selected students at no cost to either the student or school. This program hopefully has an agenda that meets the needs of high school Sophomores and Juniors. The TYLS Committee will meet in January to set the agenda for their seminar in March 2003. This is an exciting undertaking for our club. We invite each GFWC of Tennessee club to join in the excitement of holding a TYLS of its own.

Start making plans to hold a TYLS today! It is a fun day for members as well as for students and speakers.

Report your club's work on this project in 2003 under Education Special Projects.
