GFWC Germantown Woman's Club

Members of the GFWC Germantown Woman's Club donate items to the Smart from the Start Program at St. Patrick's Church. The Center for Preschool teaches children ages 3-4 pre-reading skills, vocabulary development, and exposes them to many things for which the children would not normally experience.

members donated items to a woman's abuse center in Memphis. The abuse center helps women become established independently in the community by giving them emotional support, teaching them vocational skills, and parenting advice. Congratulations to Elmire Phillips on her award! Elmire "is known for her outstanding leadership in the GFWC Germantown Woman's Club and as the volunteer chairperson of the Germantown Volunteer Corps." Club President Karen Grant said, "Elmire has always given her time for causes she believes in, whether it is helping a friend or working on a civic project. If she says she is going to do something, you know it will be done".

In addition to her club work, Elmire is active in the Germantown Community Theater, Germantown Library, the 4th of July celebration, the fishing rodeo, the Holiday Tree Lighting, the Walk on the Wild Side, and the Germantown Festival.

She is the "driving force behind the Turtle Bayou project, which is one of the most successful environmental programs in the area," according to Pam Beasley, acting director of the Germantown Parks and Recreation Department.
