Bills Introduced
103rd TN Assembly to Regulate
Traffic Safety

GFWC of TN voted at Fall Board to continue the project for “Traffic Safety On TN Highways”. Ann Durall was appointed Chairman 2002 – 2004 by President, Lana Robinson.

Senate (729) and House (954) Bills have been filed in the 103rd Tennessee Assembly by Senator Tim Burchette and Representative Jamie Hagood as follows:

Traffic Safety – Requires truck tractors and semi-trailers to operate in right-most lane on interstate or multi-lane divided highway; violation is Class C misdemeanor, punishable only by $50.00 fine. –

Amends TCA Title 55, Chapter 8, Part 1.

The Abstract summarizes *SB0729/HB0954 as introduced.

No Amendments for either Bill www.legislature.state.tn.us/bills

Clubs! Let’s get notes and e-mails out to our legislators in our own districts/areas as soon as possible so that there will be no mistake that we want safety for all citizens on interstates and multi-divided highways in Tennessee.

To be effective with note/e-mail correspondence, keep it short and to the point (post card is best).

Remember: send it to your representative. He/she wants to hear from you! You are a constituent. He/she wants to please you.

Just a note about the Pilot Project in Knoxville; The study of this program by the University of Tennessee was finished in late 2002 but the TN Highway Department had unanswered questions and sent it back for more answers. The signs are still displayed in Knoxville. I will keep up with this progress and report as I get answers. It seems to work well but we want the whole state to be safe.

Can we do this? Yes, we can!

Remember to report this project next year, 2003, in Public Affairs Department: Safety.

Ann Durall, TN Chairman: Traffic Safety Chairman
