TENNESSEE TRIVIA -

Tennessee won its nickname as The Volunteer State during the War of 1812 when volunteer soldiers from Tennessee displayed marked valor in the Battle of New Orleans


Greeneville has the only monument in the United States honoring both the Union and Confederate armies. It is located on the lawn of the Green County Courthouse.


 

GFWC Waverly Woman's Club

GFWC Waverly Woman's Club observed "Make a Difference Day" by collecting needed items and cash donations for Women Are Safe, an organization composed of various centers which give assistance to victims of domestic violence. Over $2200.00 in cash and merchandise was collected. In response to GF of TN President's Special Project "Saving Our Sisters", the Waverly Club has chosen "Women Are Safe" as its current two-year Community Involvement Project.

Janet Rice (right) president of the GFWC Waverly Woman's Club, presented a donation to Liz Coombe, a volunteer for Women Are Safe. Over $2200 in cash and merchandise was collected in Humphreys County.

Nominations

A nomination is a motion that the person nominated be chosen for a certain position.

RULES GOVERNING THE MOTION
Does not require recognition.
Does not require a second.
Is debatable.
Is not amendable.
Requires a majority vote
May not be reconsidered

TYPE OF NOMINATION
By a committee.
From the floor.

By a nominating committee.The nominating committee may be either elected or appointed, or secured by a conbination of the above methods. It is usual to provide in the bylaws for the nominating committee its duties and method of procedure.

The nominating Committee may either be a standing or a special committee. It usually excludes a president as a member

IMPORTANT POINTS CONCERNING NOMINATIONS

Nominations may be made by anyone who has the right to make a motion.

A motion may sometimes be made to declare the nominating ballot the election ballot if the bylaws do not require the election by ballot.

Names should be arranged on the election ticket in alphabetical order.

Nominatees do not leave the room during an election but, if prudent, will vote for themselves.

A person may be nominated by the nominating committee for one office and nominated from the floor for another.
