Lana's Letter

It’s hard to believe a year has passed since my installation last April. As I recounted the year’s events for my President’s Report at Convention, I had to wonder how I did any thing besides be your president. Even though it has been a terribly busy time, Convention proved that all the hard work by so many of you to implement our projects had paid off. I am so fortunate to have such good chairmen, club presidents, district presidents, executive officers and club women helping me. I thank each of you for all you do.

I hope you will make plans now to attend GFWC Convention in Little Rock. This is so close to us and it is such a great opportunity for you to participate in and learn about GFWC. A copy of the call is included in this newsletter. Please complete it at once and return to GFWC Headquarters. Like everything else – the sooner your reservations are in, the better your seats, etc.

There IS more to do! I would be remiss if I did not afford club women of Tennessee the same opportunity to benefit from GFWC leadership as I have been given. To that end, I have asked GFWC 1st. Vice President, Jackie Pierce, to present “How To Be The President” when she visits with us at Fall Conference. She will also be our keynote speaker on Saturday night. For those who may not know, one of Jackie’s jobs as 1st. Vice President is to be liaison between State Presidents and GFWC. She is excellent at disseminating information in a clear and concise manner. Those who are now, are about to be or may ever be president at any level will benefit greatly from Jackie’s expertise. More details will follow in the Fall Conference issue.

Ruth Myles, our favorite jewelry lady, was not able to be with us because she was in the middle of a move to Myrtle Beach. Because she could not join us, I invited other vendors to have displays with a percentage of their sales being given to GFWC of Tennessee. This was very successful for us – so much so that it made me think we need to do more of it. I would like for clubs to have the opportunity to be vendors if they so desire so long as the sale items do not conflict with the state’s fund raising. Currently our Standing Rules require that all vendors be approved by the Board of Directors so this would require an amendment to the Standing Rules. It is a great way for clubs to share ideas and raise funds as well. Be on the lookout for more details.

I think we need to reconsider the way we nominate candidates. There is much discussion to be had, but the bottom line is that we should use the same method that GFWC uses to nominate and elect officers. Again—details to follow.

These are just a few items I would like for you to be weighing until we meet in the Fall for serious discussion.

In Federation Love,
Lana

“The Smile That Won't Come Off”

After reading these words in the Bible from Acts 13:52a, “And the disciples were filled with joy:, I read an interesting article by W. H. Griffith Thomas entitled: “The Smile That Won’t come Off.:. He tells of an advertisement for a particular food in London many years ago. The advertisement showed smiling faces of people who had supposedly eaten the food. The caption read: The Smile That Won’t Come Off. This tells us that we should have a smile on our faces that won’t come off.

Ladies, help us to always express the joy that we an find in serving the Lord. Help us to have the smile that won’t ever come off and always be filled with Joy, Love and Understanding.
