Summer Storytelling Time As a community project, Ruth Williams, Community Improvement Project Chairman for Stones River W. C., in cooperation with Friends of the Donelson Library, sponsored a series of storytelling seminars. The 3rd session, Summer Storytelling Time, took place recently at Two Rivers Mansion in Donelson TN. Three storytellers told very entertaining, lively and informative stories to an audience of about 75 people. STORYTELLERS Renowned storyteller and Hillsboro High School drama teacher, LORELLE REEVES, shared several stories from her Southern Trunk Tales in entertaining fashion. She displayed costumes and props that she uses in her presentations. Lorelle has the distinction of being designated the regional storyteller from Middle TN. She also serves as the National Advocate for theater for the state of Tennessee. Last year she was named one of ten top theater teachers in the Southeast. Many of her drama students have gone on to become stars of stage and screen. Lorelle is also a regular storyteller at the storytelling festival in Jonesborough TN. KAREN DAVIS, a graphic artist, exhibited much skill and love of storytelling as she shared some stories from her Sycamore Tales: and Growing Up Davis collections. In her presentation, Growing Up Davis, Karen related stories of growing up in a family of seven in a multi-ethnic neighborhood. The Sycamore Tales are stories and lessons Karens father experienced and learned growing up in the hills of Tennessee in the 1920s and 1930s. Retired dentist, decorated veteran, and community leader, DR. JOHN LLOYD, gave a very entertaining account of a subject taken from his own family history. His story was titled Pa and the Yankees. His presentation was quite humorous and a delight for the audience.
Dear Chairmen of GFWC Departments, Committees, GFWC Sp. Projects, and GFWC of TN Sp. Projects: I have sent an article to TFNews for the deadline, August 10, to outline some special opportunities for clubs to explore in the departments. There are many awards on the GFWC level that include money for the winning club report next summer at convention in Orlando. Those of you that are Department Chairmen, look these over and be aware that you have extra responsibilities next March in getting the winning report to the National Chairman at a different date, usually March 1 but check your GFWC Program Book. What I have sent is an "overview" so be prepared to send your own Department article by early winter. Committee and Sp. Projects Chairmen: please send an article to Anne Babin about the opportunities for awards in your area. The next issue is due August 23rd but Anne said that her deadline is August 10th. If you have already sent an article, good for you! Let's keep the clubs informed as early as possible. Thank you for being such great chairmen.
GFWC of TN is lucky!
