Message from Ann Delaney , GF of TN Recording Secretary
Just Bragging About My Home I am excited. You all are coming my way for a second year's GFWC of TN Fall Conference. The pace is laid back here, but that doesn't mean we aren't up-to-date. Arnold Air Force Base is at the next exit on I-24. It is the largest wind tunnel testing facility in the free world. In part, it houses the space chamber which tests the equipment for space travel and the NASA Space Station. It boasts of scores of engineers and highly trained personnel. We have fifty thousand retired military in this five-county area. We brag about our four beautiful lakes that attract tournament fishermen. There are hiking trails and state parks all around us. We have farms filled with champion Quarter and Walking horses; along with miles of rolling hills, quiet ways, and an easy commute to the big city. Experience a weekend with us. Enjoy the best food imaginable. Thanks for coming to District IV. I look forward to seeing each of you in Manchester, TN. Ann Delaney Recording Secretary GFWC of TN TENNESSEE LEADERSHIP SEMINAR Betty Richards Club Education Chairmen, it is time again to turn your minds towards schools. Our one-day Tennessee Youth Leadership Seminars can begin anytime your club and your schools choose. Every high school in the state is allowed to participate. Tennessee Youth Seminars use an interactive format while developing critical thinking skills and using self development activities. It provides opportunities for outstanding sophomore school leaders from one school or many schools to interact and participate. Invite as many students as the committee can accommodate. Start now to organize your TYLS committee, decide on a date and location. Then plan your program and invite speakers on topics pertinent to sophomores. Provide letters with details to the counselors and to the number of students invited with an RSVP by a certain date. Then plan and secure food for the day. For those who are going to the 3 day seminar, contact the schools in October to be sure they have received their TLS packet and nominate a student. Then in November make sure the official nomination form has been sent to Joan Beaver and an alternate has been chosen. Under Education Special Projects there are all the details for TLS on the second page. While we are thinking of schools remember the President's Student Service Scholarship. Only one club participated in this last year. Read carefully the Details for this on the first page of Education Special Projects and participate. There are many opportunities for us with our schools and libraries especially during the days before a holiday. Lets get busy and try something new and have fun!
CARLAS COMMENTS
I can hardly believe that we will all be together again in Manchester for Fall Conference. I am sure that you all have received your Call and are busy making plans to attend. What a fun meeting President Robinson has planned for us. GFWC First Vice President Jackie Pierce will be our guest speaker, and what a delight she is. If you did not hear Jackie speak at our Spring Convention in 2002, you just cant miss her this time. Jackie will be speaking to us on How to be the President. I am sure it will be fun and informative.
I had a wonderful time in Little Rock, Arkansas for the GFWC Annual Convention. GFWC of Tennessee was well represented and enjoyed the fun of receiving many awards. As always traveling with our President is a delight. I always enjoy the few times a year I get to visit with my fellow clubwoman across the country. We didnt just have fun, a lot of business was conducted and I was busy attending many very informative workshops. I am now making plans to attend the GFWC Board of Directors meeting in Savannah, GA in September. When we return for that Lana and I will get ready for Fall District Tour. We have a special trip planned to East Tennessee in October, since we will not be able to attend the District I meeting due to the fact that it was scheduled at the same time as the GFWC Board meeting. I really look forward to visiting with the clubwoman of District I.
I would like to remind you all that the GFWC of Tennessee Juniors have several fabulous fundraising items available for purchase and we will be sure to have them for you in Manchester. We are still selling mouse pads, pocket portfolios and taking orders on the picture frames. All of these items are great gifts for your club speakers, new member and even gifts to your executive committee. Please bring you checkbooks and helps support your Tennessee Juniors. In Junior love, Carla |
