Tennessee Leadership Seminar2003; A Post Script In regard to volunteerism and TLS, there were over 500,000 aluminum tab tops which were delivered to the Chattanooga Ronald McDonald House! Of particular note is the fact that Ronald McDonald House cashes in their aluminum to stock their food pantry. Recently, the lower floor of the House was flooded and the pantry is located there. This donation is particularly appreciated this year.
The other volunteer project was the
collection of school supplies for elementary school age children to
go to a school that is severely in need. The response was OVERWHELMING!
There were hundreds of pens, markers, crayons. Dozens of scissors,
packages of notebook paper, construction paper, glue, glue sticks,
etc. TWO schools were delivered 8-10 boxes of supplies, instead of
the one school which we anticipated. Calvin A. Donaldson Elementary
School was delivered supplies and Tracy City Elementary School. Of
note is the fact that Calvin A. Donaldson School was one of the school
which had been put on notice with academics and they have been doing
an admirable job of raising all of their standards. Submitted by Joan Beaver
GFWC Janusette Delphian News The Conservation Committee of the GFWC Janusette Delphians presented Mr. Jimmy Williams, landscape architect, who gave the program for their March 2003 meeting. Mr. Williams entertained and enthused the audience as he suggested ways to preserve and conserve our resources in the environment. An avid gardener, he talked about his excitement when touring the beautifully landscaped yardens of the British Isles. He described the many varieties of jonquils and daffodils in our locale, and how we can contribute in propagation by transplanting of the many species. Pictured with Mr. Williams are Mary Walker, Jackie Alexander and Lois McLean, committee members. Mrs. McLean is a member of the club who has given time to many of the club projects for over 50 years.
The May club meeting concluded the year with its scholarship awards luncheon. The deserving senior this year is Eric Powell, who will attend MTSU in the fall. The $500 Scholarship was presented by Joy Kriesky of the Education Committee. Eric hopes to major in English literature. His mother, Susan Powell, is a teacher in the Paris Special Schools District.
