EMAIL message from
GFWC President Judy Lutz, July 9, 2003

Dear Federation Friends,

Happy summertime! I hope each of you enjoyed a memorable 4th of July holiday and are planning a warm, relaxing summer filled with family and lots of fun.

It is hard to believe that the 112th GFWC Annual International Convention is now a thing of the past. If you were not able to join us in Little Rock -we missed you! The Convention was a rousing success. Please look for a comprehensive report of the event in the August/September GFWC Clubwoman magazine.

To tide you over until then, following are just a few of the Convention highlights:

  • The proposal to increase GFWC dues incrementally by $1 each year for five consecutive years beginning with dues payable to GFWC in February 2005 was adopted with overwhelming support.
  • A new nationwide membership drive called "ACT in OCT" was announced. All clubs are urged to ACTively focus on recruitment ACTivities in the month of OCTober. Our goal is to add 3 new members to every club in October '03. (Look for more details in the August/September GFWC Clubwoman and the July Membership Matters.)
  • New, more lenient, "GFWC Trademark Use Guidelines" were adopted allowing active clubs to use the GFWC trademarks (primarily the emblem and slogan "GFWC~It's a VOLUNTEER Thing!") without seeking permission from the Executive Committee. A copy of the new guidelines will appear in the August/September GFWC Clubwoman magazine.
  • Our second annual LEADS seminar was conducted with participants from 40 state federations. Look for these up-and-coming leaders at your district and state meetings.
  • This year's GFWC Program Department Annual Report was distributed. The report is compiled using the reports we receive from across the nation. And, the results are truly impressive. A synopsis of the Report will appear in the August/September GFWC Clubwoman magazine. (complete copies can be requested through GFWC Headquarters)
  • We conducted our third annual GFWC Day of Service in partnership with Heifer International. 80 members traveled to the Heifer Ranch and assisted with a variety of projects including gardening and light construction. In addition to the manpower, we forwarded monies totaling $1,798.75 to this wonderful organization.

It has been an honor and a joy to serve as your International President during the past year and I look forward to another productive year ahead. This is an exciting time for our Federation. Working together, we can ensure our members' needs are met, our communities are served, and our organization thrives. As always, please let us know how we can help your club succeed.

Hugs and warm summertime wishes,

Judy Lutz
International President
