eGFWC — Great PR for GFWC

Dear Federation Friends,

Have you ever heard of Martha Stewart? Have you ever seen her magazine, Martha Stewart Living?

It’s hard to think of someone who doesn’t know of Martha Stewart and her magazine. Well, the great news is that not only do we know who Martha Stewart is but, she knows who we are!

The August 2003 issue of Martha Stewart Living magazine features an article titled, “ Bird Embroidery”. In addition to detailed instructions on how to create bird motifs on fabric goods, the article offers a history of the establishment of state birds and references the significance of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs in that movement (see page 146). And, later in The Guide section of the magazine (on page 179 under “bird embroidery”), a special thanks is given to GFWC with a listing of our address, phone number and website.

So, get to the newsstand and pick up a copy of the August issue of Martha Stewart Living today. Share the article with friends, family and fellow club members – we should all feel proud to be GFWC members (and in the news!). Hopefully your club is publicly identified as a “GFWC” club so it, too, can reap the benefits of this positive publicity.

Special thanks to the WHRC staff at Headquarters who assisted the writers and researchers of Martha Stewart Living for this article.

Happy Reading! From mkrisfalusi@gfwc.org 7-18-03

MEMBERSHIP
from JOHNNIE HILL

ACT in OCT is a new, nationwide membership recruitment program which was unveiled at the 2003 GFWC Convention in Little Rock. All GFWC clubs are urged to ACTively focus on recruitment ACTivities in the month of OCTober. The goal--this year--is to ADD 3 in OCTOBER '03!!!

Every club that ACTually adds 3 new members to its roster as a result of membership recruitment ACTivities in OCTober should email, fax, or send a postcard to GFWC Headquarters informing them of its ACTions. Every club that tells us by December 1, 2003, will be recognized for its ACT in OCT recruitment success in a winter issue of GFWC Clubwoman magazine. AND, the presidents of the FIRST FIVE clubs to notify Headquarters will receive a personal phone call from GFWC International President Judy Lutz!!

So get started now and begin making plans for an October recruitment event. I'll have more info at Fall Conference. Hope to see you there!!

On a personal note, I'm continuing to improve each day. I'm at about 80% recovery and am getting stronger and stronger. Will be glad to see everyone in September!!!

Chaplain’s Corner—Mattie Mullins

My husband and I just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary.

We have received cards, letters, phone calls and visits from family and friends.

During this time we have taken a new look at our lives. Not only realizing how God has so richly blessed us as a couple but how God continues to direct our daily walk. We have renewed our vows to each other and pledged anew to let God have complete control of our lives.

As I reflect on my life I want to challenge each of you to re-dedicate yourselves, individually to live as Christ would have you live.

The older we get words like honesty, love, kindness, patience, joy, long suffering and forgiveness take on a new meaning for us, Will you join me in looking forward to another year as each of us faces the future and all God has in store for us.

Psalm 37:5 says "Commit thy way unto the Lord, trust also in Him and He will bring it to pass."
