Clubs: Special Opportunities for 2003 Reports

1st Vice President, Ann Durall

We began the reporting year for club programs and activities on January 1, 2003 so we are well into the year 2003. Many clubs have projects and programs that are going to be eligible for very special awards on the GFWC level. These awards bring a monetary award as well as certificates. Always check the GFWC Program Book for additional information. I will be glad to assist as needed. Ann: adurall37@aol.com

Here is a simple outline of some of the GFWC Department opportunities. Club need to focus on these areas before December 31, 2003, the deadline. Watch for other reminders in this issue about GFWC Special Projects and GFWC of TN Special Projects.

Listed, are all divisions in each department with the state chairmen. If there is no reminder after a division, it means that you proceed with reporting as in the year 2002.

GFWC Art Department

Literacy (Jane Wilson)
This is the report in which most clubs in TN participate. Plan your report to reflect all work but give special emphasis to extremely large projects such as the GFWC of TN Special Projects: Cops and Readers.

2003 activities for Youth Literacy/ASPIRE are very important for several reasons. The narrative is 2 pages but is single-spaced. It can have up to 5 pages of supporting material. State Chairman will receive Youth Literacy ASPIRE club reports by March 1, 2004 and the winning report to Washington DC by March 12th. Note the different date for receipt of the report from clubs. This club report will have the opportunity to win a monetary award at GFWC if selected 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place at the National Convention. Only one entry per state is accepted by GFWC. Check pages 13, 14 in blue Program Book for additional information.

GFWC Home Life Department

Special Projects: (Donna McLean) (The final destination of the Mt. Division report from Chairman, Llew Ellen Luttrell is included after being judged at the state level.)

The National Organization of Disability (NOD). Clubs submit 2-page, single-spaced, typed narrative with up to 5 pages of supporting materials, (check page 4 in GFWC Home Life Department Program Book). Club entry must be postmarked by March 1, 2004 to Home Life State Chairman. There are cash prizes at GFWC for club entries: $500, $350, and $150.

Women’s Financial Information (Kay Lunsford)Club entries are due to state chairman by March 1, 2004. Club entry may have 5 pages of supporting material. (The rules in the Program Book do not say that you can have additional space for your narrative so use 1 page, double-spaced) There are cash prizes at GFWC level: $500, $400, and $300. One award of $150 goes to one state federation.
