FROM CONVENTION TO CONFERENCE…OPPORTUNITIES ABOUND

I wish I could find the perfect words that would convince every clubwoman of the benefits to be gained by attending a GFWC International Convention. There is so much to be learned -- from the information provided by our GFWC officers, board members and headquarters staff as well as from the marvelous speakers whom most of us would probably not have the opportunity to hear otherwise—to the fun and fellowship with our fellow clubwomen across the nation and the world. This year’s 112th. in Little Rock was no exception to that rule. I think all seven of our members in attendance will agree.

Needless to say, the biggest thrill of the Convention is winning prizes (awards) for the work you have done. I’m proud to tell you that we won in our category for: International Affairs “Outreach For Children”; Conservation “Resource Conservation”; and “Libraries 2002 & Beyond”.

Indeed, one of the highlights of my being your president has been having the privilege to work with GFWC 1st. Vice President, Jackie Pierce, as our coordinator of state presidents. Jackie’s meetings are so well planned and enthusiastic and always afford the state presidents the opportunity to share with each other the work each has been doing in her respective state. Our meeting in Little Rock was especially productive and I will be sharing that information with your at Fall Conference in Manchester.

In addition to all the fun and fellowship and learning, there was some business to be conducted. There were many amendments adopted and these will be available to me at GFWC Fall Board meeting in Savannah. I will be able to share them in their entirety at Fall Conference. I should mention the most significant one which is a slight increase in dues. Beginning with dues payable by February, 2005, there will be a one dollar (1.00) per year increase through the dues payable by February, 2009.

Now that you have been told all of the news your president will have for you at Fall Conference, I know you will want to be in attendance. The dates are September 26-28,2003, at the Manchester-Coffee County Conference Center. We have great speakers and seminars planned for you. It is going to be a casual weekend with a theme for each event and prizes for the best outfits. This is YOUR OPPORTUNITY to share and learn and lead. Read the enclosed call and make your reservations TODAY.
