GFWC Coytee Woman’s Club

The Education Department chairman’s Mary Ann Williamson and Pat Gouge of the GFWC Coytee Woman’s Club collected school supplies. Club members brought the supplies to our club meeting. Supplies like Paper, notebooks, pens, spiral notebooks, pencils, colored pencils, pencil boxes, crayons, folders and glue. The supplies were taken to Lenoir city Elementary and Highland Park School. These school supplies will be used for students who might not be able to buy the supplies they need.
This picture shows a few of the items that were taken. Mary Ann and Pat are shown with David Meers, Principal of Highland Park School.

GFWC Monday Club of Johnson City member Mary McClellan made a lap robe as part of its CIP. This will be presented to a person in an area nursing home who uses a wheel chair.

GFWC Monday Club of Johnson City members make donations of non-perishable food and money to Good Samaritan Ministries to stock its food pantry. Pictures with some of the items received are members Linda Harkelroad and Joan Dressel.

Tennessee Leadership Seminar News - Joan Beaver

TLS ALIVE AND DOING WELL!
Members have inquired as to the status of the Tennessee Leadership Seminar and it is with a great deal of pleasure that I report that TLS is doing extremely well! We had a great response from schools last year and anticipate even more participation this year.

The new seminar chairperson is Beth Brown (who is an alumni of our program) and she has made the decision to move the seminar to Murfreesboro and Middle Tennessee State University. This is a good move in that it is centrally located for the students from across the state who attend. The date for the seminar is set for June 4-6, 2004. Again, this will hopefully eliminate the problems we have had in the past with the many activities students are involved in toward the end of the school year. There have been many conflicts with proms, graduations, exams, and athletic events which generally cause a "fruit basket turnover" at the last minute and have schools scrambling to make certain that an alternate can attend. In a number of instances, there is no alternate and we lose a representative from that school. This move is definitely worth a try.

A web site is now ready for use but still a "work in progress". Please check it out at http://angelfire.com/tn3/tls/index.html.

Letters to guidance counselors had been on hold until the site and dates were confirmed, but have now been sent out in the mail. Those clubs wishing to contact schools can now go ahead and put in a call or a visit.

The committee and Board of Directors of Tennessee Leadership Seminar are so extremely appreciative of the support of the clubs from GFWC of Tennessee and hope that we have the continuing backing of our members.

THANK YOU!
Joan Beaver , Chairman
Tennessee Leadership Seminar for GFWC of Tennessee

PS. BE sure to REPORT your participation in TLS, and we will list the Clubs who sponsor a student in the TFNEWS !
