Lanas Letter
Before I talk about all of the exciting things happening in our organization, I simply must say congratulations to our wonderful editor for having been named one of Memphis' Fifty Women Who Make a Difference. This is such an honor, so I have asked her to brag about this on the front page of this publication. I can assure you Anne is one who makes a difference in GFWC of Tennessee". (Please see related article on page 7. Ab)
Secondly, I must say a very heartfelt thank you to all who have sent
notes and called to say what a wonderful Fall Conference we had. It
was, indeed, wonderful and such fun. From "Boots and Business"
on Friday night, until Sunday when Tona Turpin received the award
for the most outstanding shoes of the weekend (picture on page 9),
everyone seemed to have had a great time. Donna Walls was a hands
down choice for best sandals, sporting mementoes of her clubs projects
atop her wedgies. The judges were also on the mark choosing Elisabeth
Rogers of GFWC Junior Chilhowee, Maryville, for the "Best Boots":
cowboy blacks with hand tooled red/ white tops. Thanks to all who
participated.
Along with all the fun we had a very productive and informative meeting. Those who missed GFWC 1st. Vice President, Jackie Pierces seminar on How To Be A President missed one of the best leadership opportunities of all time. It was truly amazing to see our members sit for two hours mesmerized by Jackies presentation. If that were not enough, she topped off our "Lynchburg Luau" with You and Me in Harmony in GFWC and once again, everyone was enthralled. Thanks, Jackie, for your excellent presentations and for participating in all of our fun activities.
This seems to be a letter of "thank you" notes, but I would
be completely remiss if I did not thank Jane Bell and the girls of
GFWC Greeneville Junior Womans Club for hosting my special gathering
in East Tennessee. I also thank all of those in attendance. You welcomed
Carla and me so warmly. It was truly a wonderful visit to this beautiful
area (Greene County) of my paternal ancestors.
Carla and I represented you at GFWC Fall Board in Savannah and had
a marvelous time there. We came home loaded with new information and
ideas. Hopefully we have passed these along at our Fall Conference.
By the time this edition reaches you, we will have been to Southeast
Regional and there will be news of that in this publication also.
Congratulations to all who have participated in GFWCs "Act In Oct". As of this writing, my own club has enrolled eleven new members and look forward to adding more soon. Elsewhere in this publication you will find news of my extending the program until December 31st in Tennessee with special incentives for doing so. Club Presidents-- please keep me updated on your clubs membership increases.
Finally, make plans now for our Annual Convention in Gatlinburg. We have not had a Convention there since 1982 and you will not want to miss it. Our special guest will be GFWC Treasurer, Mary Ellen Laister. Were planning a very special installation for Mary Love not to mention numerous other marvelous activities. It is my plan to also have a special installation service for the new District Presidents. There will be lots of business on the agenda as well as the election of new officers. Although the Call to Convention will not be in the next issue, I do plan to include the hotel information so you can reserve your rooms as early as possible.
As the Holiday season approaches I (and of course, Miss Raunchy) wish the happiest times for you and yours with loads of peace and joy and love. YOU ARE THE BEST!!!
In Federation Love,
Lana
GFWC Germantown Womans Club

Germantown Woman's Club holds their annual Bake Sale with their best recipes at the Germantown Festival Sept. 6th and 7th. Not only is it a fundraiser for the club's charity activities, it also provides community awareness of the many service projects in the area.
