eGFWC message 9-12-03

Dear Federation Friends,
Is your club making preparations to participate in GFWC's nationwide membership blitz next month? ACT in OCT is a new initiative to "Recruit 3 in October '03."

Join clubs across the country by holding a membership recruitment event during the month of October. Every club that increases its active dues-paying membership roster by 3 as a result of recruiting ACTivities in the month of OCTober - and tells us before December 1 - will be recognized in a winter issue of GFWC Clubwoman magazine.
The first five clubs to notify GFWC Headquarters of their success, by postcard, fax or email, will receive a personal telephone call of congratulations from President Judy Lutz! Details appear in the Aug/Sep issue of GFWC Clubwoman magazine.
And, as you prepare for the new fall season, don't forget to include your 2003 Region Conference! Join Federation friends - old and new - for a festive fall weekend featuring: Tours of local sights of interest; Election of 2004-2006 Region Officers; First-ever Region Lunch and Learn on topic of concern to your members; Professional motivational speaker; Insight into the Strategic Plan and future of our Federation; Game show antics featuring our own "Federation Feud"; Inspiring addresses by GFWC International President and GFWC President-elect.
Remember, the greatest benefit of attending GFWC meetings is sharing with and learning from fellow clubwomen who truly believe in volunteer community service. Nothing beats a fall weekend at a Region Conference. We look forward to seeing all of you there!

Program Suggestion for GF of TN Clubs

The Board of Directors of the Tennessee Branch of the International Dyslexia Association have as one of its yearly projects a public awareness endeavor to reach out to club women across the state of
Tennessee . Vice presidents in the six regions of the state will be providing programs on dyslexia, as a diagnostic entity, to GFWC clubs in their vicinities in hopes of broadening valid information about this
disability that affects so many of our school children and adults.
Learning Disabilities Chairmen in clubs in the following regions are asked to contact one of the association vice presidents to set dates for presentations at their club meetings:

Region1 Tri-Cities: Vickie McGowen ydjp55a@juno.com
Region 2 Smoky Mtn.: Elizabeth Cox eac4414@aol.com
Region 3 Southeast TN: Eileen Card eacard@aol.com
Region 4 Central Lynne Walker: clwalker@mtsu.edu
Region 5 Delta: Rene' Friemoth Lee rflee@bodineschool.org
Region 6 NW TN & KY: Paul Thompson Thompson p55@hotmail.com

**ATTENTION -DISTRICT 1**

Our State President Lana has encouraged us to participate in the national initiative of ACT in OCT for membership. Our Tennessee emphasis will last through the end of the year. I want to encourage you to be finding new members in your area. Invite them to join your club. Be sure that you give your new members some special attention. Remember joining a new group can be difficult. Make sure that your new members feel welcomed and understand what your club is doing. Don't forget to use nametags at each event you host.
One thing that my club, GFWC Junior Reading Circle, is doing is hosting a Thanksgiving Orientation and Brunch on Nov 19th. We have invited all new members and potential members to a fun brunch. We will be talking about club work, going over our handbook, and having lots of fun and food. Our goal is to make each lady feel how thankful we are to have her participate in club work.
I am serving as the District 1 coordinator for membership during this initiative. Please feel free to contact me at 423-585-5149 or at jdcwalls@lcs.net. Let me know how many new members you have. Don't forget to contact GFWC with your new member totals. Let's share the joy of club work with the friends around us.

Don't forget ACT in OCT for membership!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Donna Walls, District 1
