GFWC Womans Club of Hendersonville GFWC Woman's Club of Hendersonville again participated in Historic Rock Castle's Daniel Smith Days which were held on September 26th-28th, 2003 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on the grounds of Historic Rock Castle. The Woman's Club sponsored a concession booth on both Saturday, Sept. 27 and Sunday, Sept. 28 from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. each day. The group served up their signature "period correct" foods from the frontier days. Fried turkey legs, roasted corn on the cob, ham and biscuits, fried peach/apple pies, sweet tea and lemonade were among the menu items. In addition, this year Odom's Tennessee Pride helped sponsor the Club's concession booth by providing the Odom's grill and a company representative to grill several kinds of sausage (Bratwurst, Italian and "Chubs") to be included on the Club's event menu. The Woman's Club of Hendersonville also sponsored an activities booth with fun games (along with prizes) and other activities for the enjoyment of all ages. Part of the proceeds raised by the Concessions/Activities booths will be used to fund the many programs, charitable donations and scholarships sponsored by the GFWC Woman's Club of Hendersonville in their effort to aid our community and its residents. The other portion of the proceeds will be given to Historic Rock Castle to help ensure the historic home will be around for future generations to learn from and enjoy.
Visitor's to Historic Rock Castle in Hendersonville, TN flocked to the GFWC Woman's Club of Hendersonville "period correct" concessions booth where they could select from a variety of "frontier style" menu items and Odom's Country Pride sausage items during Daniel Smith Days on Sept. 27-28, 2003. The Woman's Club also ran an activities/games booth (along with lots of prizes) which was a big hit with the kids! "ACT IN OCT" and Beyond By now all clubs should have reported at least three new members to GFWC headquarters in response to "Act in Oct". To further encourage the enrollment of new members, President Lana Robinson announced at Fall Conference that GFWC of Tennessee will extend its "extra effort" membership drive until December 31, 2003. President Robinson has appointed an "Act in Oct and Beyond" chairman for each district to coordinate the efforts. These chairmen will work with the club presidents and the district membership chairman to brainstorm innovative ways to gain new members. As an extra incentive to increase membership, the appointed chairman of the district with the largest number increase in membership will have her expenses (hotel, registration and meals) paid at Spring Convention in Gatlinburg. Additionally, a special award will be given to that district. If you have not already been contacted by the chairman for your district, do not wait. Contact your club president or district president or district membership chairman to offer your support for this effort. "How Old Are YOU?" - from Mattie Mullins How old are you?
