The International Affairs Committee of GFWC Stones River Woman’s Club Sponsors Program on Africa

The members of GFWC SRWC are better informed after hearing Dorothy Anderson, retired missionary and President of Vanderbilt's Retirement Learning Center, present a program on Africa. Mrs. Anderson shared first-hand knowledge of the continent’s uniqueness, its varying cultures and its differences. A question and answer session followed her lecture. The club’s members gained new insight into the vas and intricate needs of the continent. Pictured right : Dorothy Anderson, Missionary (left) and Marie Wiggins, Program Chairman.

CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE
AT TWO RIVERS MANSION

History came alive at the Christmas Open House at Two Rivers Mansion this year. GFWC Stones River member Carolyn Sullivan portrayed Willie Harding McGavock, who inherited the 1100 acre plantation and who, along with her husband, planned and built Two Rivers Mansion.
Willie, sitting in her rocker in front of the fireplace in the earlier 1802 house, told about her life before her marriage, about her wedding to David McGavock, and about her family and their home. She also mentioned that she sometimes observes weddings at Two Rivers Mansion and had a picture from the summer of 2003 that "verified" her presence.

Club members and hundreds of guests enjoyed the beautifully decorated mansion, the home baked pies, cakes and cookies, hot spiced cider, the craft booths, the decorated bird tree and the singing of Christmas songs. The Open House has become a wonderful tradition and is the Club’s major fund raiser. Left: L to R -- Nettie Rose Flippen, Virginia Rogillio, and Naomi Manning at the piano in the background.
