GFWC Germantown Woman’s Club

Spreading Christmas Cheer
The GFWC Germantown Woman's Club again joined forces with MIFA (Memphis Interfaith Association) to bring toys to the needy children of Memphis at Christmas. MIFA in an interdenominational organization that provides food, clothing, and shelter to needy families of Memphis throughout the year. At Christmas they sponsor a Toy Store where people can go and get new toys to give to their children for Christmas. Brand new toys are donated throughout the year and donations are given to MIFA to purchase toys. Many of these toys are the only things these children will get for Christmas.
The GWC starts working in September by collecting money to purchase items for the preteens such as radios, CD players, watches electronic games, etc. Members of our club then go out and purchase these items. When it is time for the Toy Store to open we decorate the store. We put up Christmas trees and hang decorations around the room to make the store look festive. We then work the first shift when shoppers come to select their toys. We check the shoppers in, help them select toys, then bag up their toys when they are finished. This year over 28 members of our club participated in this project.
The MIFA Toy Store is a great way for our club to help the community and a great way for us all to get into the spirit of the holidays by helping make Christmas a merry one for the children of Memphis!

The GFWC Tullahoma Woman's Club members met two big challenges during the club year. They successfully recruited "three new members in October,: and the membership chairman, Ann Cunningham induced four more members to make a total of seven for the year.
Becky Norfleet, club international coordinator, inspired the members to give generously as she passed the "heifer project basket." The end result was instead of one heifer the members donated $500 dollars to buy two water buffaloes for women overseas.
To answer the call under the state president's special project, SOS, the club held a paper products shower for the area abuse shelter, Haven of Hope. Members donated toilet tissue, paper towels, facial tissues and office paper for use at the shelter and/or given to the women who were able to set up a new home. A representative of the organization attended the meeting and spoke about the programs to help the women and children victims of abuse at the shelter.
