GFWC of TN Director of Junior Clubs Pat’s Ponderings
My Dear Friends in Federation, My goodness, where has the time gone? It is already late fall and the holiday season is right around the corner. Which also means that report writing time can’t be too far off either. So, ladies, please remember to conserve some energy during your holiday merrymaking in order to get those club reports written on time! During the past few months I have had the privilege of attending a number of GFWC events. In August, I attended a GFWC Board meeting in Washington, D.C. where we received information about the new programs. Some of the Juniors went to the Franklin Roosevelt Memorial where we had our picture made at the statue of Eleanor Roosevelt who was a member of GFWC. We also went to the Smithsonian where we saw the General Federation of Women’s Clubs’ exhibit. Next on the agenda was the GFWC of TN Fall Conference, the workshops and the health fair were excellent. In October, I attended the District One meeting in Sneedville. Laural Karp did a wonderful job presiding and it was good to be back among “home folks”!! More recently, I attended District Four’s meeting in Sparta. Brenda Simmons and the ladies of District Four were gracious hostesses. I enjoyed visiting some of the club members from the Cookeville and Tullahoma Juniors; they are so enthusiastic and energetic! The GFWC Southeastern Region held a most spookctacular conference in Shepardstown, West Virginia on Halloween weekend. It was good to be able to visit with my GF friends from Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, D.C., and to spend time with the members of the delegation from Tennessee. I’ve truly enjoyed the fellowship that I’ve experienced with my friends this fall. These are ladies that I would not have known if I were not a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs. We are all united by a common thread…a passion for serving our communities through volunteerism. I have indeed come to realize it is the little things that create differences, that in the big things of life we are at one. (Excerpt from A Collect for Club Women, Mary Stewart). I hope that you and your loved ones have a happy holiday season and I wish you health and prosperity in the New Year. Junior Love, |
