GFWC Woman’s Club of Hendersonville GFWC Woman's Club of Hendersonville, was recently recognized by the Hal R. Ramer Society at Volunteer State Community College. The club has contributed over $25,000 in scholarships to the college over the last ten years. Dr. Hal Ramer was the first president of the college and remained in that office until he retired in January 2003. In 1994 the college realized the need to raise additional funds for the school and established a new society to accomplish this task. The newly formed society was named in honor of Dr Ramer. Each year GFWC Woman's Club of Hendersonville awards two scholarships to Volunteer State. One scholarship for a displaced female homemaker and one scholarship to a female who is a recent Hendersonville area graduate. The money for these scholarships is raised from the clubs annual Fashion Show held each spring. This year's Fashion Show raised over $20,000. In addition to the two Volunteer State Scholarships the club also provides a third scholarship which is awarded to a female high school graduate from the Hendersonville area. This year, in addition to the scholarships the club also awarded over $3,000 each to three local charities. —Rene Woodward =========================== Sad News Isabel Edmands’ daughter died Sept. 10, 2004.
