Janusette Delphian Club
District 8
Paris, Tennessee

The Janusette Delphian Club began its new club year on September 23, 2004 with plans for several projects to raise money for its senior scholarship.
The education committee, Joy Kriesky, Mary Sue Leach, Gay Nichols, and Joyce Weiher, hosted the meeting at Lepanto's Steak House. A patriotic decor was selected to remind members that leadership is what the upcoming presidential election is about and urged members to encourage everyone to vote in November.

Mary Jo Hudson, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Hudson, was the recipient of the club's leadership scholarship as one of its education projects. She presented a brief program on her experience at the Tennessee Leadership Conference at MTSU in Murfreesboro in May.
The thought for the day was given by Mary Sue Leach. It was composed by Father Denis O'Brien, United States Marine Corps:
"It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.

It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protestor to burn the flag."

The following new members were welcomed by the club President Dorla Meentz at their September meeting: Mildred Adams, Marlys Caylor, Ann Cody, and Pat Mark

President Dorla Meentz closed the meeting with a moment of silence for our troops and other personnel serving in Iraq.

GFWC Ossoli Circle Adopts
Ships Project

In response to Enduring Freedom troops, hand knitted caps and other knitted items are being sent oversees by hundreds of clubs and other organizations. GFWC Ossoli Circle’s Craft Department (Susie Kelley, Chairman) is participating and to date, over 20 caps have been sent to our troops. Those on submarines need the caps to keep warm because the temperature is lowered at night for a healthy environment. Cold nights on the desert require additional warmth also. Our enlisted men and women are grateful for this special love from home.

Ena Mae Butler, a long time member of the Craft Department, knits every chance she gets. Ena Mae, turned 98 in August, received the Tribute of Honor Award in the last GFWC of TN administration and it is well deserved. She supports her club and is beloved by all of Ossoli. Ena Mae has limited sight but she doesn’t let this keep her from club work, gardening, knitting and caring for others.
