Subj: Excerpts from e-GWFC Message from Shelby Hamlett, GFWC International President

Date: 11/15/2001 2:20:21 PM Central Standard Time

Important Message Regarding Disaster Relief —Since establishing the GFWC Disaster Relief Fund (hereby known as the GFWC 9/11 Disaster Relief Fund) shortly after the tragedies of September 11th, GFWC has received hundreds of donations for thousands of dollars from around the country. Your generosity and commitment to aiding those in need at this trying time is impressive and inspiring.

When the 9/11 Disaster Relief Fund was established, we shared our intent to divide the monies raised between the American Red Cross and the GFWC New York Federation's Operation Firefighter Fund.

As you may know, on October 30th the American Red Cross publicly stated that they were closing their Liberty Fund due to the overwhelming amount of donations they had received to date. In light of the Red Cross' decision to close their Liberty Fund, GFWC has made the following decisions regarding our 9/11 Disaster Relief Fund.

Any undesignated Disaster Relief Funds contributed by members, clubs or state federations prior to November 1, 2001 have been divided between the American Red Cross and New York's Operation Firefighter fund (as was originally intended).

All donations made by members, clubs or state federations from November 1st on will be forwarded to the GFWC-New York State Federation of Women's Clubs' Operation Firefighter fund. Operation Firefighter was established by the GFWC-NYSFWC in response to the September 11 terrorist attacks at the World Trade Centers. The purpose of the fund is to purchase equipment for the New York City Fire Department.

Members wishing to contribute to the GFWC 9/11 Disaster Relief Fund may send donations to GFWC, Attn: Disaster Relief, 1734 N Street, NW, Washington, DC 20036. As stated above, all of those donations made from November 1st on will go to Operation Firefighter. If you have any additional questions regarding this Fund, please feel free to contact us at Headquarters.

A Season of Thanksgiving: I pray that you will have the opportunity to enjoy the presence of family and loved ones during this special season of Thanksgiving. I know many of you are shouldering extra burdens at this time and I pray that they will be

lightened for you. May you all be richly blessed. Happy Thanksgiving! Shelby Hamlett, GFWC International President

Please share all this valuable GFWC information with your fellow club members. And, remember to help us spread the word about this great e-GFWC list and encourage other clubs to assign an e-GFWC contact. Members who want to be included just need to email, fax or mail their name, club name and email address to GFWC Headquarters attn: Marisa Krisfalusi (mkrisfalusi@gfwc.org).

It’s EASY to Report

E. Encourage chairmen, treasurer, secretary and a typist/computer literate to help.

A. Allow time for each to do their part while making sure you meet the deadlines.

S. Say what you did in the most simple terms.

Y. Yes, What you did IS important, because what you tell us influences future plans for the state and the federation.

Some “THOUGHTS” for you to think about:

Until you spread your wings, you’ll have NO idea how far you can fly.

What the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.

You can succeed best and quickest by helping others to succeed.

A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.

Leadership is action, not position.

When we ALL work together, we ALL win together.

A man (or woman) can succeed at almost anything for which he (or she) has unlimited enthusiasm.
