Glimpse of the Past - From "The Tennessee Clubwoman" December 1948

(Oh... Those were the days….the newsletter was in the form of a Magazine, complete with many pages of advertisements.) "Keeping Up With Our President

“To A Club President”

A club president must be winsome and witty and wise. (But not too wise)
And good-looking enough to appeal to all eyes (But not all eyes.)
She must be a good dresser and spender and lender
Always ready to go where her club wants to send her
Willing to work, night and day on every committee that’s
Formed in her club, her state, or her city.
Devote all her time and that of her spouse.
Neglect all her friends her family and house.
She must eat at each banquet, luncheon and dinner.
And yet she must manage to grow thinner and thinner.
While doing all this, she must forget about self.—
She must work every minute, “or else get put on the shelf.”
And when she has finished this time of her slavery,
What does a Club President get for her bravery?
—Dixie Wallace"

GFWC VALAMONT WOMAN'S CLUB

Members of GFWC Valamont W.C. have been busy with programs and projects. We had programs on literacy from READ Chattanooga, toured the Ronald McDonald House, the new Chattanooga Room In The Inn, and the Children's Advocacy Center. HOBY Ambassadors presented a great program and members were involved in a "Speaking of Pain" seminar. Books were donated to the new Room In The Inn Booth at the YMCA Christmas Mart, and they also prepared a meal to be served at the Ronald McDonald House. A "Reporting Workshop" was held and EMS Coloring Books complete with crayons were assembled for the Children's Advocacy Center and Children's Hospital. A surprise baby shower and kitchen shower were organized for two members.

Pictured visiting the Children's Advocacy Center are Candace Chazen, Pat Huddleston, Suzanne Caplenor, Trudy Hughes, executive director of CAC, Marilyn Dammann, Valamont President, Hazel Garner, and Jamie Melton of CAC.

The CAC provides forensic interviewing, specialized child abuse medical examinations and counseling services to child-abuse victims. The staff also works with school and community based programs.

From THE TFNews June 1956.

Do you remember these ladies? One of them--Mrs. John Dean-- was the mother of your Editor ! She went to Kansas City on the train from Memphis, carrying two HATBOXES and two suitcases! Ah, the Good Old Days…..
