Reading Across America celebrated by GFWC Bellevue Woman's Club
Five members of the GFWC Bellevue Woman's Club participated in "Read Across America" and the celebration of Dr. Seuss' birthday last week. At three area schools, members read to classes ranging from K-3rd graders.

Books read included several by Dr. Seuss and other books by children's authors. The importance of reading was discussed with the students.

These activities are sponsored by the Education Department of the GFWC Bellevue Woman's Club.

DELLA DISCUSSES - Della Gowan, Director of Junior clubs

My dear friends of GFWC of Tennessee: It is difficult to believe that in a few short weeks, this administration will be gone, but I hope not forgotten. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your many acts of kindness shown during my tenure as Director of Junior Clubs. The friendships and the special memories will be etched in my life forever.

One of those special memories will be the lasting influence GFWC of Tennessee clubwomen are making upon their cities, state, and world. You deserve a standing ovation for the countless hours volunteered and the many dollars contributed. Special recognition is given to each of you who were READY TO MEET THE CHALLENGE AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE in the life of a child. I wish I had the space to list each project or program that was accomplished. A special emphasis was placed on enriching the education of each child from volunteering in classrooms, providing books, tutoring, providing preschool supplies, and volunteering in children's shelters. THANK YOU!!!

I want to also take this opportunity to thank each member of the GFWC of Tennessee Executive Committee and Appointed Officers: Susan, Lana, Mary Love, Sandy, Donna, Karen, Mable, Nancy, and Ann. You are the greatest! Thank you for always being there for me and providing support and advice.

Susan and I could not have accomplished anything without the help and willingness of the GFWC of Tennessee Board of Directors. WOW!!! You are an awesome group of dedicated volunteers. Congratulations on a job well done!

A special thanks to the ladies who served in Junior Chairmanship positions on the Board of Directors. Not only did you support me, you put up with me. Thank you, friends, for everything!!

My district, DISTRICT 2, and my club, GFWC Junior Chilhowee, have shown so many generous acts through cards, calls, visits, and, most importantly, through their support. You are a special group of friends who I will never forget!

Last, but not least, thank you, Susan, for allowing me the honor and privilege of serving along with you during this administration. It has been a memory filled with laughter, hard work, tears, and, most importantly, lots of admiration. Thank you, my special friend...it's been GREAT!!!

Dear friends, let's not stop here! Keep working...keep volunteering...keep caring! Always be prepared to be READY TO MEET THE CHALLENGE AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE....Della

GFWC OUTLOOK CLUB ART EXHIBIT

GFWC Outlook Club of Millington and the Millington Parks and Recreation Department sponsored an ART EXHIBIT in the Baker Community Center all day Saturday and Sunday afternoon, Feb. 23-24.

Large Crowds viewed eight long tables of more than 300 amateur artists' works from North Shelby county and South Tipton County. Students' art from 12 Millington area schools filled two large adjoining rooms.

GFWC Outlook Club member Lydelle Thornberry chaired the Art Exhibit. The event had generous newspaper (with pictures and interviews with local artists), radio and television coverage.

The Art Exhibit is a popular annual cultural event. The paintings are not for sale. The entire area takes pride not only in the large number of amateur artists' works and the beauty of their paintings, but also in the fine art from local schools.
