"You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you." -- Dale Carnegie
GFWC WAVERLY Woman's Club The GFWC Waverly Woman's Club was very busy in the year 2001. WE started out making cloth bags and filling them with tooth paste, soap, combs and other things for Operation Smile. A lot of the ladies worked with the city of Waverly and other groups on building a wood playground with slides, swings, castles, sandbox and all, from ground up. The ones who could not work furnished food for the workers. We bought bricks with our name and the GFWC Waverly Woman's Club name to go on a pathway at the park. We held contests in art poetry and short story writing in the local schools and took the winning pieces to the State. Our annual Senior Citizens Center Valentine party is always a hit with the 35-50 seniors who come and enjoy refreshments, games, piano playing and singing. A lot of gifts are provided by our club. We support the Youth Town near Jackson TN and Workforce Essential --the program for women being trained to enter the work force. We sell tickets for our March fundraiser-- a luncheon and bridge party, which includes a speaker of interest. During the summer we ordered 36 Flamingos and placed them in people's yards. Then we charged $20 to move them to someone else's yard. This kept us busy all summer, and we raised over $2000 while having fun. We also support HOBY, National Library Week, ESO, Relay for Life, Humphreys County Crime Stoppers, recycling and clean roads. In addition, we award a scholarship each year. The GFWC Waverly Woman's Club stays busy under the leadership of president Mary Lynn Johnson. -submitted by Grace Tinnell, Home Life Chairman.
