GFWC Germantown Woman's Club Involved in Community

The GFWC Germantown Woman's Club recently donated a check for $3,200.00 to the City of Germantown Parks and Recreation Department. Presenting the check to Assistant Parks & Recreation Director Pam Beasley (left) is club President Catherine King and President-elect Karen Grant.

The GWC adopted one of the eight interpretative stations, Turtle Bayou, along the new Wolf River Nature as their CIP project. Several additional grants and future fund raisers are planned. This check brings the club's donation to a total of $6,700.00.

GFWC JACKSON Woman's Club

February was a busy month for the GFWC Jackson Woman's Club. On Valentine's Day we visited The Veteran's Home in Humboldt, TN providing entertainment, refreshments and goody bags. We also delivered sundries, socks, paper products, 3 banquet tables and 20 folding chairs to Youth Town. We had lunch with Mr. Pappas and staff discussing needs and future ventures. We also got to meet and visit with some of the students, a very heartfelt experience. Submitted by LaVerne McIver

GFWC JANUSETTE DELPHIAN CLUB

The GFWC Janusette Delphian Club, District 7, Paris TN is a small group of 25 who contribute to the community in support of the arts and education, and in public awareness of information concerning conservation, public affairs, international affairs and in home life problems including women's health, and substance abuse prevention.

Scholarships provided each year are given to a deserving sophomore for HOBY and to a qualifying senior applying for college admission. Monies are raised by way of a yearly rummage sale.

A member serves as vice president for Northwest Tennessee International Dyslexia Association. She is involved in the upcoming conference to be held at the new Center for Dyslexia Studies in Murfreesboro TN on April 13, 2002. GFWC of TN members interested can receive more information by emailing her: mleach@aeneas.net.

Some of the club members viewed the film, "Ennis' Gift", produced by the Bill Cosby Foundation in memory of his dyslexic son. It is a 52 minute exceptional video introduced by Ed Bradley of 60 MINUTES with narratives by well-known adults who have coped with and succeeded in spite of their learning problems, I.e., Charles Schwab, James Earl Jones, Lindsey Wagner to name a few. One member serves as a mentor of a fatherless child one day a week. Several club members assist with a local radio auction in January and February, that raises over $150,000 for Henry County charities each year.

"Don't be afraid to give your best to what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones tend to take care of themselves." -- Dale Carnegie

GFWC Knoxville Woman's Club and their Booster Club husbands took a truck load of goodies to Wartburg. The Lobettis donated a truck and Bud's time to deliver the items . We took over 400 shoe boxes for the children of the area to have for Christmas. Shoe Boxes were collected from clubs all over the state as well as from GFWC KWC, thanks to Sue Walker.
