Uninvited Guest
by Anne Babin

"He came, uninvited, in mid-October and spent his days soaking up the warm sunshine, stretched out on our front porch swing.

Reticent and aloof, he said little, but conveyed the definite impression that he was here to stay a while, bestowing favors sparingly… a glance here, a touch there.

Dependent on no one, he came and went at will, and we missed him when he stayed away too long.

Winter’s harsh cold finally drove him to accept the warmth of indoors, and he condescended to join us in the evenings.

We don’t know where you came from, beautiful cat-with-no-name, but you have completely captivated and conquered us, and now we’re glad you came!"
